“Calgary is Chef Scott Pohorelic’s kitchen – and his playground.”www.river-cafe.com
Situated on the banks of the Bow River, near Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains, Calgary is a cosmopolitan city where restaurants are springing up with big-name chefs in charge. In the heart of downtown Calgary, Chef Scott Pohorelic presides over the River Cafe, which features Canadian cuisine made from local organic ingredients. Chef Pohorelic supports suppliers whose methods of farming and ranching honour the land as a sustainable resource.
In this episode, we follow Chef Scott Pohorelic as he prepares a surprise anniversary feast for his wife of five years. We travel with Scott to a local bison ranch and learn of new innovative Bison herding and feeding methods that have resulted in a revival of nearly extinct native Fescue grasses.
We join the Chef on his first trip to a local asparagus farm, where shoots are harvested entirely by hand. And we watch as he unpacks and tastes a prosciutto ham that he’s been curing in his own cellar for a year.
With massive preparations under way, Scott struggles to ensure his wife is completely surprised by what he hopes will be a feast fit for a queen. We watch Chef Pohorelic welcome his friends and unsuspecting wife to the scenic River Café for a uniquely Albertan surprise.
